New Design - African Images - in Progress

I recently began working on a new design which is a little different from my previous designs.  In this piece I am trying to create images, just images, of Africa, particularly the birds and their environments.  There are forests, baobab trees, marsh and grasslands, plus feathers and nests.  The stitched size is 8 inches X 11 inches.

The above photo is created by stitching about 1/4 of the design, then I added colored pencils and watercolor pencils to complete the rendering to send as a proposal.  I plan to continue working on this project to have completed in the next few month, so will post a few updates.

To construct the piece, I have used Copic markers for layering the background color and a stencil and acrylic dabbers to add leaves.  There is texture in abundance using lots of Silk Raffia, Painters Thread, plus other perle threads.

I have to say this is the most fun stitching I have had in a while.  I will be interested to hear what you think,

Terry

New Kits Now Available

I am happy to announce we now have the Autumn Arrows kits ready to ship.  This is the first in a Mini Geometric Series (5 inches square), so it is a great portable design to travel with.  This design is stitched primarily with the new Treenway natural dyes series of threads, as will be the future designs in this series.  I have chosen to use Zen Shin, a silk perle #8, and Harmony, a silk 6-stranded floss.  Also included is a skein of a new Stef Francis handpainted silk perle #5 thread.  Here is the link to the Autumn Arrows page for more info.

We also have available a few thread kits available for Images of India and Whirlygig and Mediterranean Squares

AND, the first group of Safari thread kits is now gone, so we have more threads on order and the kits will be available in about 30 days.

We are trying to work up to having an inventory on hand of thread kits for all the "Designs and Kits for Sale".  So please keep checking the site.

Enjoy your stitching,

Terry

Baroque Diamonds and some new poppies

One quadrant is finally complete of Baroque Diamonds.  I ended up making several minor, or moderate, changes.

Of course, since last time I hav added the two new pattern areas and added bugle, seed and Tila beads.  I also revised the center diamond and the triangular area of the same pattern.

Once this stitching was completed I scanned the area and then pieced together 4 copies of the scan to show how the completed design will look, except for the little bit missing on the right edge.  The complete design is approximately 8-1/4" square.

It is interesting to refer back to the original sketches and threads pulled for the project.  I used three of the markers:  two rose and one gold.  I also used three of the beads shown previously plus one new Miyuki seed bead. Also, no new threads were pulled other the originals shown.  But previously there were only the full skeins lined up with no regard to proportion and it just shows how much a change in the proportion of each color group can make to the overall design!

Now here is a another new design I have begun working on.....very different from Baroque Diamonds!

This is going to be a group of three small poppy scenes, each only 3-1/2" square.   The can be framed separately or all three matted into one frame or pillow or wall hanging, or other.

This is the original watercolor sketch before it has been copied to Transfer Artist Paper.

Here it is TODAY, with the design transferred to canvas and the first poppy almost conpletely stitched.  Each of the three poppy sketches will have different color Iceland Poppies with some looking up and some looking forward, and with interesting "sky" and "field" patterns added.   Rather sketchy and loose as you can see....or maybe it is too soon to tell yet.  I am having fun with them!

Happy New Years!
